Due to the pres- sure of the solar wind, the magnetic field compressed on the side 01 Earth facing the Sun. The magnetotail, on the other side of the Earth, streams outward for many thou- sands of kilometers Within the magneto- sphere are regions 01 charged particles which are trapped by the Earth magnetic field.
